RED LENTIL DAL

Step 1/5


  • 400 g red lentils

Soak the lentils in plenty of lukewarm water for approximately ten minutes, until the other ingredients have been prepped.

  • 1 bunch soup vegetables (such as carrots and celery and leeks: approx. 300 g)
  • 300 g potatoes

Clean the soup vegetables; peel the carrots and celery and wash the leeks. Cube the vegetables. Wash and chop the parsley (if using). Peel the potatoes and onions and cut into 1 cm cubes.

  • 3 tbsp. butter
  • 3-4 tbsp. curry powder (such as garam masala)

Add two tablespoons of butter to the AutoCook pan. Set the "risotto" program and select "short". Press "Start for Phase 1". As soon as the butter has melted, add the curry powder, onions, soup vegetables and potatoes. Stir everything with the lid open until the signal sounds.

  • 1 l vegetable stock
  • 300 g puréed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce

Drain the lentils and add them to the vegetables in the AutoCook pan. Add the stock and puréed tomatoes. Season with soy sauce. Close the lid. Set "25 min" with the timer. If you are using the AutoCook Pro steam pressure function, close and lock the lid with the rotary knob. Set "9 min" with the timer. Press "Start for Phase 2".

  • 200 g fresh baby spinach leaves
  • 100 g pickles (sweet and sour pickled vegetables such as pearl onions and gherkins and corn and carrots)
  • 100 g yoghurt

While the lentils are cooking in the AutoCook, sort, wash and drain the spinach. As soon as the signal sounds, open the lid and stir the spinach into the dal. Close the lid and press "Start for Phase 3". Meanwhile, coarsely chop the pickles. As soon as the signal sounds for a third time, season the dal and serve in deep dishes. Garnish with one tablespoon of yoghurt and serve with coarsely chopped pickles.

For 6 servings

Besides red lentils, other types of lentils without husks (such as yellow or white lentils) are also well suited to this recipe. However, brown, green or black lentils with husks require far longer cooking times, and when these types are used the finished dal will not be quite as creamy.
